I have to go water my plastic plants now

I actually said that to a guy once when I wanted to get off the phone. He said oh ok .

What excuses have you given someone that you didn’t want to talk to them?

Nothinbg to do with "Relationships", but to cut a call short when I realised its criminal intent. I used an "appointment" and "already a bit late" as the excuse.

@4meAndyou Well, at one time there were many companies trying telephone-sales of thing slike conservatories, and prople came up with all sorts of Little White Lies to get rid of the cold-callers:

"I'd love in a conservatory but live in a fourth-flat".

"Sorry - I'm on benefits and living in a housing-association place".

And so on.

One evening perhaps twenty years ago now, a gentleman with an Asian accent telephoned me, trying to persuade me to buy a telephone contract. He told me the prices and I said, truthfully, "My portable telephone is on PAYG and costs me less than half what your contract would." (That is still true.)

He wouldn't take no for an answer and tried a new tactic: replacing himself with a young lady. "AHA!" I thought, "The charm offensive!"

I managed to get her off the subject of telephones, partly because I was civilised. She said so often they get only abuse from the people they call. I refrained from pointing out that is wrong of them but hardly surprising. "Angel" as she said her name was, finally finished our very pleasant chat about half an hour later.

She rang again a week or so later, just for another chat! I warned her to be careful though. She was supposed to be selling 'phone contracts, not ringing strangers around the world just to talk.

A third call from Angel, and again I warned her. I never heard from her again so I do hope my warning had not come true that she might be dismissed, or at least moved away from the sales desk.
