If the guy you were dating planned something for your birthday by buying you balloons and roses and gave you a cheap promise ring what would you think

I would think that remembering it was my birthday in itself was kind and special. To get flowers and balloons would make me goofy smile. And the cheap promise ring would be the sweetest gesture and would be priceless to me.

It doesn’t matter what I think. By calling the promise ring “cheap”, you’re already indicating what you think of him. Perhaps unintentionally…

How long have you been dating and what kind of income does he have? These things are kind of relative. You invest more in longer relationships, but if you are broke you shouldn't be going into debt over birthdays.
