Sex Surrogates – Prostitution in Disguise?

Definition: Sexual surrogacy is a therapeutic practice designed to help a person become more comfortable with sex, their body, and/or the emotional and physical skills they need for intimacy.

In other terms. The client works together with a licensed sex therapist and a sex surrogate.

Sexual surrogacy is a controversial and commonly misunderstood form of therapy. Due to its potential ethical and legal complications, there is a lack of published research on sexual surrogacy.

Would you consider having sex with a surrogate under supervision of a sex therapist as a form of legal prostitution?

The client will be charged by the therapist and perhaps the sex surrogate to perform a sexual act that is basically not free of charge and thus cannot be considered as being “normal”.

What is your view on this controversial topic?

Therapy in every form is good as it helps us to eork through whatever is not healthy for us. The right therapist can help us breakdown barriers (physical and mental) through communication and touching.

Proper mental health is important and celebrated. Im a believer in everyone needs to talk to a profession for a mental health tune-up every year or so . Thats acceptable and covered by insurance where I live.

Sex therapy is just as, if not more important for physical and mental health and should be seen as so without judgement. Imagine the adult that has some relationship trauma and they cant seem to function properly bc they cant get passed it? Or should they have the proper help so they can enjoy sex as they should? Maybe they need reassurance that only physical touch provides. And yes, it should be covered by insurance also.

@TallMtnMedic I am not sure whether that kind of therapy is covered by the basic health insurance but you are right in a way that emotional distress should be addressed and treated equally as a physical disability. There are quite a few people that do suffer from not having the ability to express themselves through sexual contact, be it because of a physical disability or any other form of challenge. I am thinking of people that are tetraplegic for example and that could be partially helped with such therapy on an emotional level.
@Stephie Health insurance doesnt cover sex surrogacy unfortunately.

Tetraplegic? Absolutely they would be helped.
What about people that suffer from severe depression? Its debilitating. Wouid this therapy bring them out of it? Yes, and without medication that has sideffects.

@TallMtnMedic Listen, I am not a doctor nor do I have a degree in psychology but I can see that there might be a potential risk for misuse as a number would see such kind of therapy as free sex with a person of the opposite gender that will be reimbursed by the health insurance. It is a very tricky subject.
@Stephie Absolutely there would be a risk for misuse. Except the surrogate would be certified, working under a licensed sex therapist, and need a referral from a sex therapist, or psychologist. The patient would also need a complete physical with lab work, and what not. Labs must be clean / negative also.

The patient would then have a set schedule with the sex therapist and surrogate that they must adhere to.

These would minimize misuse and protect everyone involved.
