What would you do?

This is complicated. But my ex’s cat passed away a month ago. We broke up over the situation because my ex changed. We hardly spoke. We broke up 6 months ago. But had been sorta flirting with the idea of fixing it. Another huge reason is our distance. I want to live together but my ex is caring for their mother who has dementia. They live in England, I’m in America. When my ex’s cat passed away, it meant not having to buy a plane ticket for a pet as well which is expensive. Anyways, a few days ago, my ex told me about getting another cat and that sparked our argument. I do feel out of line but I’ve waited so many years to be together and wasted so much time. I know I have to fork all the money over if it’s ever to come true. I feel bad and am being supportive now but it feels like we really have no chance to fix it
I also have a bunch of cats here that my ex can have it’s just a hard situation and I certainly don’t want another. I can hardly keep up with what I have
