@onionsonyourburger you may not want something casual, but you can't control the perspective of others. And seriousness get built over time for there is a passing cloud phase in everything. So the art of living is being flexible and not rigid. Every action or inaction of yours has a consequence which you need to face. Many things are beyond our control in life today as people take decisions at rapid pace to fulfill their need for the moment. Long term plans never work and only disappoints and I see many changing plans within a short time. So take it easy.

It seemed you only became depressed when you lost your job, and someone told you that Elizabeth liked you, so I think your emotions are muddled, which is not unusual when you have become unemployed, but all together, it makes you emotionally vulnerable.
Maybe take a step back, and wait until you are in a better frame of mind before getting involved in a relationship. That’s my 2 cents, but it’s your choice.
