When I hear people complain about marriage…

And I don’t mean like complaining about abuse that’s totally valid… but like the “my husband wants me to go out and I want to stay in “. And like seriously- some of us women are getting date raped trying to find someone who will marry us . We’d give anything to have to dress up on a night that we’d rather be in our pajamas . It’s like the people complaining they’re bored with their dinner choices forgetting that some people are starving .

I think you're reaching quite a bit. Married people can be unhappy too.

@DearAmbellina2113 but married privilege is very real . So very real . The amount of security a double income household has is insane .

@antisocialbutterfly lots of people are privileged. Married, rich, white, attractive people, people who have kids, etc.

I guess my point is that life is rarely fair.

@DearAmbellina2113 yet we’re perfectly comfortable shaming white people and Rich people for their privilege - but not married people
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@antisocialbutterfly not saying shaming married people is not allowed.

@antisocialbutterfly Think there ought to be a lot less generalized "shaming" than goes on today. Unless the person is actually doing something that's actually wrong .. its a bit of a load of crap to shame them. Especially with regard to something like marital status.

We are not all born to the same situation, that comes with some differences in people's experiences. A white person with money is no more inherently bad than a person of color who is poor is inherently good or hindered from rising above their circumstances. Societal imbalances are not appropriate to foist one's jealousy and desire for change on specific individuals as if they personally are to blame.

For instance three of the smartest people I ever met were poor people of color. Their parents raised them to value an education, helped them excel in school and pursue scholarships. Now, 30+ yrs later, they are among the most successful people I went to college with. Some of my sons friends are from similar circumstances and also attending college on academic scholarships. It can be done if the right priorities are leading the lives of the parents and kids involved.

@Stillwaiting eh. You're completely glossing over systemic racism and classism.
@DearAmbellina2113 No .. I know racism exists. Not so sure I buy classism as much in most countries.

Just saying there are many examples of successful exceptions to claims only the privileged can succeed. Maybe a little also that excusism is the broadest "ism" of them all.
