Those are probably true. When my husband and I were on the brink of divorce, I was shocked to discover that friends recommended he go to a legal aid solicitor to go to court to get half of my inheritance. I've supported him financially for over twenty years. We've had no kids. He has never worked and never put in one cent of value to our cost of living. I felt my friends were stabbing me in the back.
