Should I get to know a man who lives an hour away?

The man I want to get to know more lives about an hour away. I am currently employed 5 minutes away from my house so I really don't want to move. He mentioned that he doesn't picture himself moving away from the area he lives in now. If I were to get serious with this man, would that be a problem down the road. Would neither one of us be flexible in moving? Is this something I should get deeper in conversation with him first, go on more dates? How can I address this concern. I know a couple who spend part of their time at his place together, part of their time at her place together, and part of their time in their own places separately so each can "have their space." It works for them.
