Christmas gift giving

My boyfriend decided that he doesn't want any gifts from me this year, and any money I would have spent on him I should use to get myself something, so he won't have to get me a gift.

Is that being practical or is he being a prick?

I find it hurtful, am I being overly sensitive?

I don't think you're being overly sensitive. It is hurtful. He doesn't want to go to the trouble of thinking of a gift for you. The fact that he can't be bothered to think of you says a lot.
