Christmas gift giving

My boyfriend decided that he doesn't want any gifts from me this year, and any money I would have spent on him I should use to get myself something, so he won't have to get me a gift.

Is that being practical or is he being a prick?

I find it hurtful, am I being overly sensitive?

I have a feeling in his eyes it makes sense and is practical. Probably in a harmless way. But I would like you and be a bit hurt. The thought of receiving something, even very simple is meaningful.
