I have used audiobooks on long drives
Sevendays · M
Reading them , especially real books
CBarson · 51-55
I LOVE to read books, but rarely have enough time and/or quiet. My alternative is to use time spent driving, cycling, etc., listening to the books I wish I had relaxing firelight time to read.
Audiobooks are not a perfect substitute by any means . . . some audiobook narrators have speech quirks or pronunciation oddities that can affect the experience. Such as male narrators who use soft, lispy voices for female characters' dialogue (as though real women talk like that). Narrators who over-dramatize scenes by using frantic, excited narration or (in the case of horror fiction) "spooky" voices. Mis-pronouncing the name "Gawain" as "Garvin." I could go on. But overall audiobooks are a functional option, if not quite the same experience.
In other words, it sucks, but I don't have time to read all the books I wish to read, so I use audiobooks

I don't see well enough anymore to read real books and I don't listen to them because the moment I think about something I get lost. But I can still read ebooks.

I like both. Read if I have time, listen if I don’t. There are also place you can’t read and so listening works well there.

Audiobooks all the way. I can't focus when reading anymore so I listen to books when I'm doing other things
Wiseacre · F
@Skippyskiptic too distracting for me

read. I have never listened to a audio book before. That to me would take away the experience of the book

I love reading books if they're fiction and listening to them if they're non-fiction.
I have no idea why I have this.

Read them, but did listen to them once or twice to try it out
But as I age my eyesight is going. It might go to audio books in the future

I prefer reading my books. Now if I am on a road trip I love a good audiobook.
sunriselover · M
I like to mull over passages. Go back over them. Sometimes I read aloud.

Reading, for pleasure. If it's for work or study audio , at 2x speed
Spoiledbrat · F
Read audio is nice if it's read good but most isn't.
JovialMoose · 46-50, M
Read. Except for school/non-fiction.

Only read
Suggestmeone · M
Read it.
If I dont read some things like a novel or history, I dont get it all as much as reading it. I understand and follow the story when I read but not so much when I am listening to it.

I use audiobooks so that I can multitask.
Wiseacre · F
@Librarymouse I don't like distractions

I used to read a lot as a kid. It tends to happen more via audiobooks for me now though. I've listened to a lot of audiobooks at this point.
