how to read an old paperback book without damaging the book

i asked this before but got no relevant answers.

i have quite a few old paperback books which i bought 2nd hand from online, in good condition... ive not read any of them yet, but i wondered when i do come to read one of them how to read them without damaging the book? presumably if you open the book too wide the pages *might* fall out?

so is it best to just open the books partially and not full wide open?

The only solution i can think of (without paying a fortune for restoration) is to buy plastic wallets and keep the pages in and then put them into ring binder.
But i imagine that will work out quite expensive.
Most paperbacks will withstand a reading without falling apart as long as they are reasonably carefully handled. Not bending back the spine is important.
