The best way to decide is to read it. It must have appealed to you in some way for you to be considering it.

@being I would say that you should read it when you get back from the remote place. So that you can compare your experience with Thoreau's. But do remember that Walden was not remote. Thoreau was never more than a couple of kilometres from other people.
Here's the opening paragraph:
It was a social experiment, a kind of controlled departure from the sort of society that he normally inhabited.
Unlike the people who lived all their lives by the labour of their hands he was always at liberty to go back to town.
It's only rebellious in a quiet, theoretical way. I dip into it occasionally.
Instead of carrying physical books with you you could download lots from Project Gutenberg or Anna's Archive and read them on your phone, laptop, or tablet.
Here's the opening paragraph:
When I wrote the following pages, or rather the bulk of them, I lived alone, in the woods, a mile from any neighbor, in a house which I had built myself, on the shore of Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts, and earned my living by the labor of my hands only. I lived there two years and two months. At present I am a sojourner in civilized life again.

@ninalanyon oh I know but there's only electricity from solar panels and can only charge my phone as much and I wouldn't like to depend upon it!:)
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@being I have a separate power bank that can charge my mobile five or six times so I can go almost a week without plugging in to the mains even if I read for hours every day. You could keep one of those charged by the solar panels.

@being Do you own a kindle? If you turn off the backlight and put it on airplane mode, they last a very long time. And you can get the 60,000 public domain books on Project Gutenberg onto your kindle or other e-reader.

@ninalanyon there's a limit in batteries allowed on planes and as usual I've got a cheap flight with 3 transits. I'm not sure about it.

@ElwoodBlues I don't own a kindle....
And also part of my reasoning is to be away from much stimuli and to not carry the world with me. I just want a few books that will fully allow me to enjoy them thoroughly and take the space to write on my own ..

@being According to this IATA document,
I think they omitted the word more. "carriage of than 20" should read "carriage of more than 20".

you can carry Li-ion batteries in your hand luggage with no problem as long as each one is less than 100 W-h. You can carry 20 of those!I think they omitted the word more. "carriage of than 20" should read "carriage of more than 20".

@ninalanyon Thank you... Everything is falling into place. My Big Journey , then The extreme exposure to people through my job, living with mum and all of the friends I'm meeting and then going to the other polarity of the Mountain and living with Cats .. 😺
...
I'm yet unsure what I'll do with SW! I think I'd have a lot of isolation and maybe I'll allow myself a visit, but definitely not be staying here for too long too often!:) will see...
