I liked the “ Incarnations of Immortality “ series.
The premise is that all the functions of the universe , Death, Time, Fate, War, Nature, Good, and Evil, are overseen by Human, who are immortal while they are in “office”
Each, book is about the new guy taking over the job.

@Entwistle From Michael Moorcock I read Elric Saga. Not sure how many I read 20 years ago. Maybe 3-4. Was fun.

@HighlanderJ If you haven't yet you should read Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time. It's about sentient spiders and it's by far the best book I've read in a while.
