I Love Books

I love books, even though I seldom have time to read books. I m not used to reading ebooks despite I have a kindle and have downloaded a lots of ebooks into it.

I like buying books but I stopped this year because I discovered that a book I bought last year got molds on its cover, and I haven't got the chance to read it yet. It s a very thick book with nice packaging which I love very much. With its cloth cover, and the hot and humid weather here, molds won't stop growing on it. I have never had this problem with other books before, I think it's probably because of its cloth cover. I wiped away the molds with alchohol but the molds grew again after 2 days. I searched on the internet what could be done and found that an article recommended soaking it in the alcohol to drive away the moisture in the book. I did accordingly the colours in the book melted. I ruin the whole book, but it's still readable so I hoped it's still worth doing so.

After few days, the molds grew again. What s worse, it infected other books as well. Since then, I just wiped away the molds with tissue paper soaked with alcohol whenever I saw molds there.

Last night I searched on the internet again and found a contact of a person who has a small business of repairing books, much older and expensive books. I wrote her an email for advice.

She replied today, that there are more than 400 types of molds in the world, some are hazardous to human some aren't, and not all molds could be treated. There are many wrong methods to repair books on the internet. And alchohol that could be bought in the pharmacy contains 30% water, whereas industrial alcohol bought in grocery/hardware shop will melt the ink in the book. The medicines for repairing books are very expensive because they are only available by importing from abroad. And it depends on what the materials and ink used in the book as well as what molds appear on it to determine which medicine to use.

She said, the money used to cure the book will cost more than 10 times than buying a new one, and attached a link of the book in an online bookstore for my reference.

I think I am going to finish reading it first before throwing it away. It s still great to send her an email and got reply with valuable information.
