Not so new

but new to me 🙂
Hit Goodwill for a few books, they had some new books at $10. Does anyone find that a bit steep?
On another note, do you like someone reading to you? I think it would be sublime.. especially poetry.

Before the reselling scavenger hunt began they couldn’t give them away for a dollar.. in years past most books were fifty cents or a dollar

@Telcontar things have certainly changed

@Telcontar last time I worked at used books bookstores was in the early 2000s, up to 2006, and we only sold junk very few people wanted to buy at those prices (just to try to get rid of it). Most used paperbacks were selling at $2.50 - $5.00, with mass markets on the lower end and the larger trade paperbacks at the higher end. Hardbacks were selling for $5 to $15 (price varied depending on size and condition etc). So… no… fifty cents for a used paperback has not been the going rate since probably the 1980s. Unless maybe you were talking about garage sales / yard sales.
@otherspect
I beg to differ, just two years ago the three nearest goodwill stores near me all sold paper backs for fifty cents and hard covers were mostly a dollar unless it was something unusual.
Where I shopped today had paper back books for 99 cents

@Telcontar I think we're talking about different things. I was talking about average going rate for used books at secondhand bookstores, you are talking specifically about places like Goodwill. Prices also depend on where you live.
@otherspect
You’re correct, I was talking about exactly what the poster was referring too, she found the overpriced book at goodwill.
And my comment was about how much they have changed their prices.
She made no reference to used book stores at all and neither did I
