1/50 ~ My Struggle by Karl Ove Knausgaard
Hello everyone, I cannot be silent for the 15 days I meant to be silent, instead I want to incrementally invite you all into my special Curriculum of reading material.
I choose the number 50 as I will turn 50 when this 2 year program will give way to the 2nd Curriculum.
We begin here with a modern Norwegian work in 6 volumes, named after that work by that abominable dictator of Germany, there's a lengthy part of this work that goes to town on that guy.
Over 2 years ago, I had gotten this from seeing Leaf By Leaf talking about it briefly in a video he did about his love of big books, big meaning LONG ones, and this one's a doozy!
This work caused a stir as it's very autobiographical, and some people he writes about in it had issues with him being so open about things.
Aesthetically it has been compared to Proust's magnum opus, and I don't know whether he will be a part of this inaugural curriculum, but I want to read this first, the writing, in translation of course for me flows very melodically, it's beautiful, slow, but luscious prose.
1. A Death in the Family
2. A Man in Love
3. Boyhood Island
4. Dancing in the Dark
5. Some Rain Must Fall
6. The End
If I had the hardcovers they would look like this
