I hope tangible books will always be a timeless thing

there was a thing I read... included a quote from douglas adams where he referred to books as 'sharks'. because sharks have existed on the planet for millions of years with almost no evolutionary changes. they are and pretty much have been perfected, there's no need to change. they'll always be around in some way/to some degree.

@dirge I wonder in what degrees can they change. You can read a pdf on a computer and is essentially a book online.
@caPnAhab yeah, there'll be some tweaking and changing around, but books will probably always be around. we have books from thousands of years ago. it's fairly luck for us to hold onto a computer format/hardware interface for 15 or 20 years.

@dirge I'd like to see them last as long on computers but the Internet to me seems a lot more fragile
@caPnAhab I think it's still just in evolution phase (like books evolved from many scrolls evolution), formats and data everything's still working itself out. it'll probably get to a stable place where a digital book will work for a lifetime... might even be there now.

I'd say the internet is actually very resilient, but it's also mushy and changing very fast on human time scales. hopefully it'll get to a strong/resilient and bit less changing.

@dirge hopefully. Maybe we won't live long enough to see it stand the rest of time, unless we can become cyborgs
