I hope tangible books will always be a timeless thing

I only read actual physical books. They're a lovely break from looking at screens and electronic stuff. Ebooks are okay if they're the only option but I'm not a fan.

Rn I'm rereading this

@SaorUladh looks like a good read. History is interesting.

I might resort to audio books if I'm biking
there was a thing I read... included a quote from douglas adams where he referred to books as 'sharks'. because sharks have existed on the planet for millions of years with almost no evolutionary changes. they are and pretty much have been perfected, there's no need to change. they'll always be around in some way/to some degree.

@stound I'd like to see them last as long on computers but the Internet to me seems a lot more fragile
@caPnAhab I think it's still just in evolution phase (like books evolved from many scrolls evolution), formats and data everything's still working itself out. it'll probably get to a stable place where a digital book will work for a lifetime... might even be there now.

I'd say the internet is actually very resilient, but it's also mushy and changing very fast on human time scales. hopefully it'll get to a strong/resilient and bit less changing.

@stound hopefully. Maybe we won't live long enough to see it stand the rest of time, unless we can become cyborgs

Went to Barnes and Noble the other day. Was looking at books. The cheapest was a paperback that cost $20 plus taxes.

I was buying new paperbacks for a dollar in 1980.

Paperback books will become so exclusive, that few will be able to afford them. They may even eliminate paperbacked books and just have hardcovers.

Noticed there was more hard covered books at Barnes and Noble.

@DeWayfarer funny, any hardcover book I've seen was more expensive than a paperback version of the same book
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@caPnAhab oh yes, they do cost more. And why they will still be around. They bring in far more profits.

@Fertilization very true!
caccoon · 36-40
@caPnAhab I'm more of a finisher, but I think a lot of people drift between! That's okay too
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@caccoon for sure, everyone moves at their own pace!
caccoon · 36-40
@caPnAhab yes! And we all learn and enjoy things differently
Jexie · 26-30, F
Yeah, me too. I love books
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
@Jexie let's hold on to them
