It's not easy to cut through a human head with a hacksaw...

My favourite first line from a book, ever! From Travels by Michael Crichton (talking about his time at med school.)

What's everyone's favourite classic "WTF??" first lines from a book? Best Comment goes to the..erm.. best one!

"It was the day my grandmother exploded"

From The Crow Road by Iain Banks

"He was walking through a forest of dead ferns when he came upon the airplane."🦖🏞

I probably can't say I have one favorite, but here is one that comes to mind:

"It began with my father not wanting to see the Last Rabbit, and ended up with me being eaten by a carnivorous plant." - Jasper Fforde, Shades of Grey.

@DrWatson I should add that I just gave a favorite "WTF" fist line, as the OP asked for. My real favorite first line is from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice:

'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.'

Biagio Buonaccorsi had a busy day He was tired, but being a man of methodical habit before going to bed made a note in his diary. It was brief: "The City sent a man to Imola to the Duke." Perhaps because he thought it of no importance he did not mention the man's name: it was Machiavelli. The Duke was Caesar Borgia.

@cherokeepatti

Wow! That's crazy

He is just talking about a book, I'm talking about hunting and you're talking about a real event.

Amazing how one topic can have so many twists and turns.

@HumanEarth oh yeah another case in south Oklahoma City. This registered sex offender snatched a woman and brought her to his house. He tied her up and wanted to saw her head off. He was living with his brother since he got out of prison and his brother walked in on him doing this and called the police and stopped it. That woman survived. This happened about a decade or more ago in an area a couple blocks from a grocery store I’d go to when I was working at the car lot.
@cherokeepatti Erm, I'm only talking about the first line of a book, which is describing the author's time in med school...
