do you read books that were adapted to a film you’ve seen?

I’m eager to read Lord of the Rings even though I’ve watched the movie dozens of times

I usually read the books first but once in a while it’s the other way around. I like to see what someone could make of the book. It’s usually a disappointment, but I did very much like the LOTR and Harry Potter movies. They weren’t perfect reproductions, but there was obvious care and effort there and they made beautiful films I thought. The Princess Bride movie actually stuck with me more than the book.

@JustNik A number of times I've seen a film which I didn't realize had been based on a book, and then go and read the book. That's how I discovered the old author, Tiffany Thayer.

@ChipmunkErnie despite the fact the movies aren’t always awesome reproductions, they do widen the audience for the books so I’m glad they give it a go. 😄
