There are several problems with all religious texts.
No evidence offered for anything recorded in a holy book.
Thus it's reading and conceptualising and understanding was left largely up to whoever recorded it and whoever translated it and whoever decided it's wording was the word of God.

That, in essence, is a description of faith.

@Picklebobble2 what about the angle of holy books being created as fiction, and established as truth. And if nothing is done about debunking them, then we as current and contemporary generation are nothing but zombies who just pass the buck to the innocent future and just pass away,
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@in10RjFox Well this is the problem when you take an interesting idea and create a belief system out of it.

If you try and debunk it.
Those insisting on it's required dogmatic belief will label you a heretic !

Personally I just think it's better to have ideas.
You can always change an idea.
@Picklebobble2 I'm genuinely curious about your idea of 'proof' . What sort of proof do you think would prove this statement in Genisis true or false ?
in10RjFox · M
@Picklebobble2 but those people will die soon isn't it.. So the future can drop the belief and move on in life.

@Picklebobble2
Well this is the problem when you take an interesting idea and create a belief system out of it.
Which is the interesting idea here ? the original or the twist ?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@OogieBoogie All science relies on evidence based testing.
Otherwise it's just a theory.

Why is faith in the stories in a holy book never held to the same scrutiny ?
What's preventing followers of a holy book from admitting the same ?

Why is it only the Catholic Church has this 'Holy Mother' idea ?

Whether that's down to male dominated societies.....yet no woman is credited with even writing a story contained in a holy book.....are they ?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@in10RjFox and why would they ?
What would cause them to even want to part with accepted dogma ?
@Picklebobble2 so if a woman was found to be credited with writing a gospel or something - that would be proof?
Do I understand that right ?
in10RjFox · M
@OogieBoogie she would have been gang raped and stoned to death and her writing would be published as that of a work of a dead man like a church father. 😀
@in10RjFox I'm just trying to work out what he would consider as a good example of proof🤷
in10RjFox · M
@OogieBoogie he won't get anywhere. not to worry. 😀 He just used words like proof, evidence etc. but will not recognize what has become evident and obvious.
@in10RjFox I don't know . maybe he just has to think on it .
I mean, there is some evidential proof about some events and things in the Bible . There's also proof that something's didn't happen when they say they did .
But if we are being specific about the human creation story, then it makes me wonder what sort of proof might be possible to find 🤔
in10RjFox · M
@OogieBoogie
there is some evidential proof about some events and things in the Bible
there are reasons to believe that such evidences were created and reestablished in books as evidence. Those who authored and published were not fools. They obviously knew what could get questioned. But the problem is the version that gets circulated which they could not recall.

How can there be an old testament & new testament ? Even the concept is stupid, but survived because of the dumb population then.
in10RjFox · M
@OogieBoogie
I don't know . maybe he just has to think on it .
That can be a major assignment to many.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@OogieBoogie There's no proof to be had. That's the point.

Make heroes and villains of whoever you like but creating one form of dogma to counter another is proof of nothing.

And that's what's being suggested here
in10RjFox · M
@Picklebobble2 So there is no need for logical reasoning or deducing needed. Just leave the idiocy as idiocy ? Do you understand the argument that Adam being first is illogical, since a male needs to be delivered by a female and so Eve must be first and it was male chauvinism that made Adam as first to gain a advantage ?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@in10RjFox oops see. There you go trying to introduce known scientific fact into an illogical argument 😉
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@OogieBoogie
What sort of proof do you think would prove this statement in Genisis true or false ?
It's not a question of proof - it would be neurotic to seek proof for claims that have been made without any being offered.

There's no compelling necessity to create these convenient fictions, and they explain nothing (not even themselves).

Drop them into the trash - they serve no purpose.
@newjaninev2 well @Picklebobble2 mentioned proof and the scientific process , and to be honest, he has a point.
But I do wonder what sort of proof he thinks could ever be found .

They say in every myth there is a kernal of truth. The Bible isn't the only historic text that mentions 'creation of man ' . There is the amazing ancient summerian tablets of the 'Atrahasis' (roughly dated 1600 - 1700 BCE), that mentions a similar 'building of man ' from the blood of gods and clay and water.

Arr they the same myth ?
Are their origins eachly unique ?

And are they literal, or are they massive over simplifications of a very complex thing ?

There are elements that are intriguing in Genesis. Like the order in which everything is created -.its almost spot on with science.

So I wonder if this story was created for a ancient simple people who had no understanding of what science, biology and physics is . How do you explain evolution to a very ignorant people? You cant give them the why's and how's - they wouldn't get it.
So you give them this overly OVERLY simplified 'miracle' .

In truth , we still don't know for sure how we came about . Science is just as blind as religion on this . Both have theories , but neither has
actual proof .

It's all very fascinating.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@OogieBoogie
its almost spot on with science
No it isn't
Both have theories
An unnecessary fiction centred around an unexplained magical entity isn't a theory in either sense of the word
@OogieBoogie I read an interesting definition of what is a myth. A made up story that’s true. An example is Washington and the cherry tree. Totally made up. The purpose to show other nations, the new United States of America, was going to be an honest country.
@newjaninev2 we differ in opinion, and that's ok .
I happy for you to find what you believe in .

I just love researching stuff 🤷

But drop being so fucking aggressive - I'm being nice and not attacking your ideas or opinions , so show me the same damn grace. It's just a discussion.
There is no need to totally decimate an idea , when it's just that - an idea🤷
@BlueSkyKing you know - I think I've read that before about the true meaning of 'myth' , and forgotten it .
Thanks for reminder 🤗

I think that somewhere ....way back in time, the stories in the Bible held some sort of echo of truth .
And it's stories were good for the people it was written for.

But how we understand these stories has changed in relation to how we understand the world . Are they literal , are they symbolic?
Are they so bastardized from word of mouth and being translated badly they have lost their initial meaning ?
Who knows ?
I think all avenues need to be included in our search for the truth of learning where we came from and how we came about .
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@OogieBoogie
its almost spot on with science
No it isn't
we differ in opinion
No, it's not an opinion... it's demonstrable fact.

You're entitled to your own opinions... but you're not entitled to your own facts.
find what you believe in
What do beliefs have to do with it?
not attacking your ideas or opinions
I'm not offering any
in10RjFox · M
@Picklebobble2 You are funny .. what is the known scientific fact ? which fact are you talking about? how do you manage to keep making obscure statements to go out of context ?
