What is a highly recommended book you read and hated?

I’ll start…

For months everyone kept recommending The Never King in all of my reading groups. I finally caved and read it. It was terrible, but that’s my unpopular opinion!

William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. I tried to get into it. Just couldn't manage it. Same with other books by Faulkner. His books bore me.

@badminton you’re the second one who has said something similar of his work. Hmmm lol

@badminton I had a problem with Faulkner, too, which is heresy for a Southerner like me.

@exexec I have found other southern writers engrossing, like Harper Lee, Thomas Wolf, Tennessee Williams, Carson McCullers. But Faulker just didn't do it for me.

@badminton Same here. My favorite is Pat Conroy.

@badminton @badminton Out of those, I’ve only ever read Harper Lee. Definitely an excellent writer
