What is the longest time you've gone trying to read a book?

My niece gave me a book for my Birthday in 2013, Fight for Freedom by Mark Keating. I had tried but it was too hard to get into, so I kept putting it off. The first few chapters, were just hard to get into the swing of it but once I did, whoa ho. Now I am looking for the 2nd one.
