Stephen King strikes again

But he doesn't strike out.

Billy Summers, published this month, is way different from most of King's work. Only the merest touch of horror emerges in some vague references to the hedge animals at the Overlook Hotel from The Shining.

Of course, Billy's a paid assassin, which is arguably horror.

I recommend it.

So you don't think it's all that great?
@DropTopDig No, I like it a lot!
@Mamapolo2016 Ok, I'll read it then, (like I wasn't going to anyway). Just wanted a "critique".
@DropTopDig Characters are well-drawn, plot moves like a freight train (once it really gets going). Made me think of The Fugitive (although hardly anybody's innocent).
@Mamapolo2016 Sounds good, I'll get it 2morrow & get lost reading.

@Mamapolo2016 I like to read, not be read to. Not being nasty or anything.
@DropTopDig That's fine. To each their own! Sometimes I can't stand an audiobook but often they're good.
@Mamapolo2016 I really enjoy the printed word. Miss "real" books where you have to turn pages.
@DropTopDig I absolutely agree. I got into audiobooks during the lockdowns when the libraries were closed and print books were expensive.
@Mamapolo2016 I understand. I only get printed books if it's something I really enjoy & might read over again.
@DropTopDig Something I love about King is how he luxuriates in his writing. I rarely finish one of his wishing I knew more about somebody or why something happened.
@Mamapolo2016 I love how he describes characters so you can get an idea where the story is going.
@DropTopDig That too.
@Mamapolo2016 What's your favorite book of his?
@DropTopDig Hard to choose...

I loved Rose Madder, The Stand, and The Dead Zone maybe ... maybe ...most.
@Mamapolo2016 The Stand was kind of prophetic, wasn't it? I liked Firestarter myself. F*ck the gov't
@DropTopDig Yes. It's hard to choose.
