I think many liked the idea of being 'bad'...the woman Dakota Johnson plays is one who is innocent and has never experienced many sexual settings. So Christian shows her this world of letting go..of just giving in to extreme pleasure , but HE will be the one to give it, mixed with pain too. Almost like a forbidden thing...I think that's what the story wanted to give to readers/women..a fantasy of letting go in an extreme way.
