I'm not crazy about the author, but Ender's Game is a good read. Also, Neuromancer, but someone else already said that!
Let's see... Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, 1984, Animal Farm, A Scanner Darkly.

The Far Pavillions by M. M. Kaye is my favorite love story/adventure. It is looong though.

One book I loved as a teenager in the 80's was Dreamsnake by Vonda McIntyre, excellent storyline, post apocalyptic.
