@Heretodaygonetomorrow Well long story short: Humans were created, Satan who had been growing a very evil desire to become worshipped saw his opportunity when he saw us. He went down to earth, persuaded humans to go against God by "eating the forbidden fruit" (probably just symbolic for what they actually did), and God had to punish us because we went against him so he sent us out from the garden of Eden. If that wasn't enough, we continued to sin, and we created empires and started practice faith in false gods, angering God to the point where he in rage killed most people on earth in a flood. Simply leaving Noah's family alive, the only people God found love within. After that things started to turn around, now people were still evil, but Jesus was now in plans and prophesied to save us from our misery. Things led up to him coming down to earth through Maria and he taught people the righteous way of living. People took after him and founded christian religion that is mostly about following in Jesus's footsteps and through that worshipping God.

Because of Jesus sacrifice to us, we're now able to choose the right path that leads to life, but we all still have to await God's Great Day where he destroys all evil, AKA Harmageddon. After this, people who are dead will either be brought up to heaven, brought back to life in Paradise on Earth as mentioned in the Bible, or be destroyed in the Fiery lake "Gehenna", along with death and suffering.

So... that is why and what we're waiting for. :)
