Nina's Blog - Monday 16th May 2022

Well I must have slept because it is suddenly morning. Grey and damp to match my mood.

Time to have a shower and a cup of tea. it's too early to go shopping for a new mobile, Argos doesn't open until 09:00 and it's only a mile away. So perhaps I'll take a few selfies on the way and perhaps find a café.

Today's outfit. I don't think the jacket goes very well with the rest, oh well, it's all I've got with me at the hotel.

The mechanic called and said that if i could get the car to them by 15:00 that they could have a quick look and at least tell me if it was safe to continue driving. They found a big stick wedged somehow under the car and that the wheel nuts were not properly tightened! So they fixed that on the spot. And it didn't cost me a penny!

But, there is always a but. On the way to the workshop the parking sensors started behaving erratically. Now they keep telling me I am too close to the car in front when I start moving from a traffic light or junction. And of course they don't work to self park the car; I'm glad that the car actually understands that they don't work and it tells me that that function doesn't work. So it's back to the workshop early Friday morning. :-(

@ninalanyon Oh no, hope you get the problem fully resolved.

A selection of pictures from my mobile phone expedition this morning. But first, what sort of barbarian puts the toilet roll on this way around?
On the way, walking along Queen's Park

Picking up the camera
No idea what this is, but it looked interesting
Lots of street art in Brighton
and some interesting entertainment
In a cafe having a snack while setting up my new cheap mobile, a 4G Nokia 105. There was a small hole in my tights when I left my hotel but it was covered by my skirt so I didn't think anything of it. Now look!
And here is the café, which I recommend by the way, good food comfortable seating, efficient service.
Not sure about their choice of music though, they were playing We'll meet again! Here it is from the outside:
More street art

Wandered along the prom for a while, turned inland and then back in the general direction of the hotel on the lookout for an inviting looking eatery. Most of the pubs are full of raucous groups, too noisy.

Then I came across the St. James. It's a pub that has a reasonable range of beers on tap. And it serves Lebanese food! Barman claims that people have told him it's the best Lebanese food in Brighton. I don't know much about Lebanese food but my falafels are really good!

The St. James seems to specialise in rum, so I asked for a recommendation, and pointed out that I like strongly flavoured Scotch. Drinking a glass of Eminente, aged in whisky barrels apparently.

The barman warned me that it was quite expensive, 5.50 GBP a measure. :-)

I'm an honorary Scandinavian (my boss used to say I was en ekte Viking), that price is cheap to us.

Anyway it's quite pleasant, a bit like Scotch but sweeter.

Here, for no particular reason is a picture of St. James

I'm waiting at the workshop for a mechanic to inspect my car and tell me if it is safe to drive and whether it needs repair. So I'm reading an old story on my mobile. Here's a sample:

And he kissed her, in a rage, in a panic lest all that beauty be destroyed - a kiss as brutal as a blow, that left him shaken.
I wonder if anyone recognizes that, knows who wrote it and if they know the other famous thing they wrote.

Lovely jacket! Looking great, you have a good day.

@Wol62 The jacket is from Mikko, one of my wife's favourite brands. I have three but the other two are a size smaller, I should get around to selling them when I go home. The top is from Wallis, bought in a charity shop in Maidstone on Friday.
