Question for Americans. Is it true, in US you don't say sorry if you fart in public?

Like you accidentally fart in classroom or somewhere like that?
I mean isn't that basic manners?

I’ve seen people apologize, but I’ve also seen people act like nothing happened. The thing about the U.S. that people from other countries forget is that we are not a homogeneous community. So immigrants from all over the world bring the habits of their homelands here. I can assure you, not every other culture excuses themselves. Some places it’s actually a compliment to the cook to belch after your meal. That blew me away the first time I encountered it. 😳
