Random Memory #2
LittleRock Arkansas visiting my aunt when I was 15. It's about 7pm on a hot muggy summer night and we're watching "Wheel Of Fortune" in the living room. My aunts kids (Heather, Brook and Christian were all in the kitchen eating their nuggets).
I'm kickin back in a recliner next to a window and my aunt Lisa was sitting in a recliner to my right with a end table between us. Lisa leaves the front door of the apt to get a breeze.
We are trying to guess the words to Wheel Of Fortune when a noisy buzz comes on the TV with a scrolling bar across the bottom of the TV. It's announcing a "This is an emergency broadcast for the LittleRock, Arkansas area. A Tornado Warning is in Effect for the LittleRock area, including Pulaski County, Jefferson County, Pine Bluff..."..etc
Me....as a kid was not thinking anything about it as I get up to go into the kitchen when I hear a loud noise....Shooooooooowwwoop!!!!BAMMM!!
The window next to the recliner implodes and on the recliner are chunks of glass where I was just sitting. The front door slams so hard it breaks the frame and swings thru the other side of the frame in the apartment hallway.
The kids are screaming and terrified...I calm them down and my Aunt is trying to open the front door.
Everyone settles down and we finally, with the help of some neighbors, get out of the apt complex. The news later stated it was an F-1 tornado (which is small, but it sure as hell didn't seem like it!)....At least we were safe!
