"Stairway to Heanen" Led Zeppelin composed the song in 1971 and went to court to prove they didn't copy a song from a band they had toured wik previously.

Was the result a miscarriage of justice?

Some of the evidence in court looked very compromised.

That does sound like part of it. I still think a credit to Randy California on the original album would have circumvented all of this.
