I Have Something to Say

For the person who just messaged me. I will not call you put publicly, so I'm leaving this here..

Soldiers do not make policy, politicians do. I swore an oath to defend and protect the Constitution. I had no choice where I was sent and who the enemy was. You think you know my "type". Here's what you may not know.

Did you know that I went away and cried, every time I had to send one of my guys home in a box? Did you know that I had to face their Mothers, Fathers, Wives and Children knowing that my decisions may have cost them their loved ones life.

Did you know that I spent countless hours and lots of my own money hanging with the local kids to give them some normalcy.

Did you know that I held back fire, when I could have and probably should have shot, to let non combatants clear the area.

Do you know that I went back to the same village where I was injured and took no revenge.

Was I walking instrument of death and destruction, yes. But not because I wanted to be.

I wish you the peace, that I'm still trying to find.

All who served our country, voluntarily or not, deserve our thanks and our appreciation. Those who did so, like you, and get called down for it deserve it even more.

Yes, you got paid for your job. But you'd have earned more in a minimum wage job back home. And you wouldn't have had to endure separation from family and combat zone danger. So we honor your service and your sacrifice, and don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise, especially spoiled kids. 🇺🇸

We have a generation now of kids taught by socialist teachers who have taught them they are entitled to everything they want. Everything they have had in life so far has been paid for by someone else and that includes their freedom of speech that love to exercise. Their parents have paid for their food and shelter, and taxpayers have paid for their education and they assume someone should pay for college. so they can graduate and be provided with a job. They have never known sacrifice at all and can't understand it. They wouldn't defend themselves if someone broke into their house, you can't expect they would defend a country if someone broke in there. What history they are taught is a watered down version that teaches that the founders were all bad.

It's funny how those who want to look down on this soldier would never have the guts to say shit to his face, but we can be keyboard warriors all day long.

You call him a weapon, I call him a brother. None of us know him, but he did write a blank check, to be cashed when it was needed, valued at anything up to and including his own life in defense of his country. If you're an American and you can't bring yourself to stand behind our troops, you, and anyone else who takes issue with the men and women of our armed forces, are more than welcome to stand in front of them.

Agreed.
At least you weren't just someone who sat around and bitched about everything going on around you.
You did something.

First Gulf War myself. And ive known ww2, Korean and Vietnam vets.
People love to sit safe and snug in a moral fantasy. Decry the warrior as no better than the barbarian. Its a tough mindset to crack and unfortunately it often takes seeing the things you saw to change them.

I just listened to stories of local veterans the other night. They dont talk of John wayne heroics...

The stories were similar to this one. An iraqi boy befriended some of the soldiers..he often brought his friend to hang out and they talked in broken english and gestures. The soldiers shared candy and food. One day the boy came alone. His friend and father had been caught in a suicide bombers explosion. His friend needed a hospital. The GIs gathered whatever money they had for him. He left but came back a couple days later. They asked him whats wrong and he just dug a hole in the ground, placed a rock in it and covered it over. All he could say was his friends name.
The soldiers cried for this boys loss and the pointlessness of it.

Thats not the face of ruthless killers some like to imagine.

Madgirl. I'm anything but special. I'm just a man who was tasked to do a job. But whether you choose to believe it or not, real evil exists in this world. Unfortunately, the only way to stop it, is to defeat it with force. I'd love to live in your world, but when you spend a day with a 14 year old girl, disfigured by acid, by the Taliban because she dared learn to read, it's a long March to take..

Thank you for your service.

Know what dude. I am a weapon, a pretty dangerous weapon. But you know what, anyone who knows me really well, knows their safe around me. I'm a Sheepdog. I wouldn't hurt anyone, who didn't pose a threat to me or mine.
RealMustangGuy · 61-69, MVIP
I love that! Thanks for posting that pic, and thanks also to whoever sent it to you. And a grateful nation salutes you Ironhand, the soldier. Thank you. 🇺🇸
Justpeaceandlove · 61-69, F
@madgirl do you have any idea why your name here is madgirl. Have some compassion for compassion sake.
lasergraph · 70-79, M
I hope you find that peace. I know it is elusive and I hope someday it comes. I want to thank you.
Justpeaceandlove · 61-69, F
I salute you! And I wish you love and peace! Someday maybe we'll all find it together! :)
Ironhand · 51-55, M
Thanks y'all. I didn't intend this to end up this way. It's all a bit embarrassing.
Ramon67 · 61-69, M
Well written . Civilians wouldn't and can't understand . Others just refuse to . Thank you .
diablesse · 56-60, F
Yours is one of the hardest, most thankless jobs. None of us would be enjoying our freedom were it not for the sacrifices of people like you. Thank you.
Ynotjenn · F
It's funny reading Madgirls comments.
If she truly knew how uncomfortable you were being called a Hero...
Or taking credit for anything...

Anyway...
You know you've always done what needed to be done for the greater good.
Nobody can take that away from you.

The school systems today fail us and somehow teach that if we just make nice there would be no war. We tried that with Hitler and it doesn't work. It makes an inevitable war last longer and cost more lives. So you get a thank you from me.
Ironhand · 51-55, M
Thanks man.

the people here make me wanna puke... you are so brainwashed in your honorable warfare illusions, i am out of here, you people sicken me.
Madgirl · 26-30, F
there are good soldiers... there are bad soldiers... just like everywhere else. i have nothing against them, its a job that has to be done like so many other jobs.

what pisses me off is this worshipping of "we saluter our troops" "thank you for serving" ok maybe you dont ask for it... but people give it to you anyway... and thats just utter bullshit
Madgirl · 26-30, F
unless you are force conscripted you choose to be a soldier as your proffesion. that makes you a mercenary.

dont try to make it sound like you do something special, some people work at walmart, some people in a factory and some people shoot at others... all the same all for money.
Justpeaceandlove · 61-69, F
@Madgirl I appreciate your argument. Could it be the experiences of people and what they go through causes us to think or not think the way we do. Who knows, Be angry, hell we're all angry. To help is to understand, to understand is to listen to what is being said and to have compassion on all.
Ynotjenn · F
Was there supposed to be a verb?
Ynotjenn · F
And you're a child.
Buh-bye.
🙄

Suck it up, buttercup <3
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
I am sorry that people are so ignorant. It baffles me the utter blindness people allow themselves to fall into.

@madgirl it surely is not for the money as they are hardly paid their worth..but you keep on keeping on with your piss poor ideaologies. A choice to fight for freedoms you use every day is a choice I garuntee you, yourself, would never make.
Cinderella · 46-50, F
Some people should just put a damper on there tongue and be greatful for the one's willing to serve!
Justpeaceandlove · 61-69, F
Being angry is one thing madgirl, expressing our anger in a calm way helps to others to understand better.
TanMiaoMiao · 26-30, F
