When it showed up in the early 20th century, it was spectacular. In the 1960's I learned about it in school, and also learned it was due back in 1986.
I looked forward to it for all those years, but in 1986 it was a dud.
During the earlier appearance, it was on the same side of the sun as the Earth. But in 1986, the two bodies were on opposite sides of the sun from each other
Fortunately, I have seen some impressive comets since then .
I seem to recall reading that the 2061 appearance will be on our side of the sun again. I won't be around, though!
