@PinkStarburst it seems to be some kind of weird morphing word that means what ever bad thing people want it to mean. Sort of like “motherfucker,” I guess. 🤷♀️
@JustGoneNow The true definition is being aware of that which is happening around you..of those who exist beyond yourself and the issues surrounding all.
It was used against abolitionists when they fought to end slavery.
It was used against those who fought for civil rights.
It became the insult of the liberal movement to be aware of others and treat them equally.
They just can't grasp how ignorant they are and how they tell so much aboit themselves in what they find insulting.
@JaggedLittlePill yeah, people have co-opted it to make it something that’s bad or a joke… much like they’ve tried to with the word feminist. My friend @bijouxbroussard told me about the original meaning. And it had something to do with being a word of honor used for a white person that was a(woke)n to the struggle of the African America person in this country. A tactic of most fascists is to try to turn the words of a counter movement into a slur and then gaslight and attack the movement with their own words.
@PinkStarburst I don’t know if you know this but my wife is a quarter black and a quarter Cherokee Indian and this kind of dog whistle language to bigots and racists really makes me sick. I’ll never understand hate.
"woke", "communist", "Marxist" are used so often as a way to mask these people's racism, homophobia, or ignorance in general
Just saw a video from decades ago about the pushback in America over drunk driving laws and seat belt regulations and a major complaint was that the implementation of these things would make the US communist. These people are so dumb it's pathetic
@deadgerbil I saw something about that too and I believe when safer carseats became a thing.
You would think the fact that we have gone through similar scenarios with the same reactions would prompt people to recognize that it is all bullshit, the fact they don't is beyond me.
