Food and comfort

I am not sure how certain food became comforting to me. I suspect that the fact that there were things my mother made that I truly loved and those are part of the good memories I have, contribute to this.

As a child when my mom would make fried chicken i would only eat the skin. I slowly realized the meat was good too. Fried chicken is my number one comfort food. I have to have mashed potatoes with it. Chicken livers and sweet tea...

I also loved when she would make chocolate chip cookies. Another fav..

Right now i can only think about chicken and livers and this has been an ongoing thing recently.

Im going to ask that it be my last meal and I be buried with a bucket of chicken and a huge pot of coffee.

🤣

If the only birthday present I could ever receive for the rest of my life was the birthday cake my mother made for me each year when I was growing up, I would be completely content.

I like chicken livers with Hienz 57 or the store bought version of it. I love fried chicken, cole slaw, and mashed potatoes and gravy but biscuits are my comfort food along with fried squash. Mmmmm

@Fungirlmmm have never liked heinz 57 🤣 but bisquits and fried squash sound yummy.
I don’t like liver, but one of the best treats my grandmother used to make were her salmon croquettes. One of our relatives who didn’t like fish, made an exception for them because they didn’t taste "fishy”. I learned her recipes so while I still miss her greatly I can treat myself (and the rest of my family) to her dishes. Last year, for Mom’s 88th birthday, I made her some of her mother’s croquettes. She told me they tasted exactly like she remembered them.

@bijouxbroussard That is awesome. I ask my mom for recipes and she has no idea how she makes things....she just puts the stuff in no measurements 🤣 I have tried her chicken but have yet to get it right.
@JaggedLittlePill I envy people with what they call “pinch and dash sense". I need recipes. And I basically followed my grandmother around, jotting down how much of the ingredients she appeared to add. I was 24 when she passed away. 🥺
