Did you know....

That Chicago is not in the top 10 cities with the most crime?

The media talks about Chicago as if it is the number one place for crime and gun violence...they mention strict gun laws...but they fail to mention the state nextdoor that is just over a bridge ....and the very lax gun laws in that great and wonderful state of Indiana.

According to Forbes

According to the FBI

There is ONE reason the media talks about Chicago all the time. I will let all of you decide what that reason is.

Did you know that any resident of Illinois purchasing a gun in Indiana is required to have a FOID card just like they do in Illinois? In fact, a firearms transfer is required by law to be in compliance with the laws of the state where the transfer happens, the laws of the state where the purchaser resides, and federal law. Handguns aren't allowed to be sold to persons residing outside of the state where the seller lives.

Last question: if lax gun laws in Indiana are the cause for the amount of shootings in Chicago, why are there so few shootings in Indiana?

@Doomsdaysmores Your premise is incorrect. The firearm mortality rate is higher in Indiana than it is in Illinois. 17.3 vs. 14.1 per 100,000.

@luckranger71 so you're telling me that Chicago doesn't have shootings nearly every weekend, while Indiana has them far less often even though they do have a higher per capita issue? Weird. Could have sworn just last weekend there were 50 people shot in Chicago. So while yes, both places have issues, maybe it's not related to the gun laws, and has more to do with high concentration of people and shitty living conditions.

@luckranger71 especially when you take into consideration the reality that the majority of the gun crime in Indiana happens in Indianapolis, much like the majority of the gun crime happening in Illinois occurs in Chicago. It's more about people and living conditions than about laws. New Hampshire has the most lax gun laws in the country, and gun crime is nearly non-existent.

@Doomsdaysmores Cities have crime. Always have, always will. Chicago's issues have been overstated for odious political reasons. Again, the numbers are what the numbers are. Statistically you're more likely to be a victim of gun violence in Indiana vs. Illinois.

But as always, this issue of pitting one area of the county vs. another in terms of gun violence is a complete red herring. The issue is why the US compares so poorly to every other developed nation on this issue and what we can learn from other countries.

@JaggedLittlePill straw purchase is already illegal. When I worked for a gun dealer, I reported many purchases I found out to be straw purchases to the ATF under Obama, and they did nothing about it. The laws are in place, but Democrats and bureaucrats don't want to enforce them.
