Is dating the same thing as being in a relationship? If not what’s the difference?

Relationships require commitment..dating requires condoms

I think a "relationship" implies a degree of co-dependency. If dating, and neither parties would feel at least an motional loss if the two of you never contacted the other again, it's not a relationship. (just my personal opinion)
