No, JFK Was NOT Our Youngest President

It has come to my attention that the old misconception of John F. Kennedy being our youngest President persists. I am here to set you straight.

JFK was the youngest president elected. He was 43 years old at the time of his election in 1960.

However, Vice President Teddy Roosevelt, who by the way disliked being called Teddy, was 42 when he assumed the Presidency upon the assassination of William McKinley. When he was later elected President in his own right, Teddy was 46, older than Kennedy was at the time of his election.

So to sum up, JFK was the youngest President elected, and Teddy Roosevelt was the youngest President ever. You have now been educated.

Why didn't Roosevelt like being called Teddy? What other name brings to mind both Teddy Boys and Teddy Bears?
JonathanC · 61-69, M
@NankerPhelge I don't know why he did not like it, but he did express displeasure at it.

@JonathanC What a weirdo. How does he feel when his wife sings that Elvis song "Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear" to him?
JonathanC · 61-69, M
@NankerPhelge Since he died many years before Elvis was even born, I doubt his wife ever did any such thing.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@JonathanC Actually, he died when Elvis was 10, I've just checked. Sorry, I didn't realise Roosevelt was that long ago. Lol :)

@NankerPhelge No. Teddy's cousin, FDR, the other Franklin who was also President, died when Elvis was 10 years old. Teddy, the one I am speaking of, died in 1919, some 16 years before Elvis was born.

Do you have a reading disorder? It's nothing to be ashamed of, but you should try to pay more attention.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@JonathanC No, I do not have a reading disorder. I Googled Roosevelt and that was the only one it came up with. It seems like Google has some kind of disorder, that's not the first time it has returned the wrong result. I had absolutely no idea Roosevelt was President that long ago, I thought he was much later than that.

@NankerPhelge It is no shame to be uneducated, but it is to sound uneducated.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@JonathanC Just because I didn't know there had been two US Presidents by the name of Roosevelt, that doesn't mean to say I'm uneducated. You have to remember that I have never been to the States in my life and I know very little about its politics.
JonathanC · 61-69, M
@NankerPhelge Which still does not prevent you from making assertions about them. I see.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@JonathanC And your point is?
JonathanC · 61-69, M
@NankerPhelge That you are annoying. Bye-bye.
