I Have Something to Say

"Haters gonna hate"

I just read a summary of an article from the "Journal of personality and social psychology." Researchers interviewed 200 randomly selected people to measure their attitudes (positive or negative) about a variety of unrelated subjects (camping, architecture, taxidermy....the idea was for people to give responses to "independent" stimuli.)

Then they showed each person a picture of a microwave oven that did not actually exist, and showed three fictional positive reviews and three fictional negative reviews of this fictional appliance.

People who reacted positively in the first part of the interview tended to react positively to the microwave, and people who reacted negatively to the first questions tended to react negatively to the microwave.

The article concludes, "some people tend to like things, whereas others tend to dislike things."

I read this and immediately thought of SW!

This couldn't be more altruistic "some people tend to like things, whereas others tend to dislike things."

Interesting. Could it be that some people have a more negative based thought process where as others have a more positive thought process?

People who think negatively have a more accurate weltanschauung than ppl who have 🌹 coloured glasses on.

@Wiseacre It might be more accurate, but is it more useful? Does it contribute to the betterment of society or merely to the acceptance of its flaws?
Wiseacre · F
@ninalanyon the latter
"Wherever we go, there we are"! It is why the "geographical cure" only works for a short time and then fails.
There are many other even MORE social-psychological mechanisms going on here

no point simplifying things, it gets boring enough here anyway.

lol😂

Wow...quite a profound conclusion, I'd say. 🐸

@Shadyglow I am sure there is a good deal of truth to what you say. But I don't see how it contradicts the results of the study. The study does not pretend to explain why people are bothered. It just describes a pattern.
