I Have Something to Say

Mamma is worrying today.

My son started a depression med over the weekend and today he is feeling out of sorts. Can't get him out of bed and called him out of school.

The thing I hate is the thought of trying a new medication for two weeks before deciding if it is not working. People have to function and if a medication is making you incapable of functioning normally then it should be stopped.

I will try a couple more doses before deeming it a fail...but this makes my heart hurt.

It takes a while before it starts working, right?

@Classified yes. It can take 2 weeks to really adjust and start to regulate in your system.

@Classified On top of this, my son and I seem to be very sensitive to medications ..they hit us extra hard compared to other people. When I went through finding the right medication I took two before finding the one I am on. I took what he does for anxiety and i suffered through it for 6 days before calling and telling the doctor I could not suffer anymore. That medication made me feel absolutely insane.(but it works for his anxiety) It is a process. One that is not easy at all and a major factor in people ending their attempts at getting help.

@JaggedLittlePill 😰
That sounds really difficult. So that's why you decide to stop after about a week.

@Classified yes. I just wasn't functional. I was literally crying 24 hours a day.

He is already struggling in school so he can't be missing days but his mental health is important. So it is just all up in the air. I want to fix everything right away but that isn't possible.

@JaggedLittlePill Doesn't the school have some lenience when he's on medication?

Having to wait can be very tiring 🤗

@Classified they are aware we are working to deal with his depression. They are doing what they can to help him get on track. It's just a lot of stuff going on at once.

@JaggedLittlePill At least they are trying to cooperate in these difficult times.

Hopefully they'll be a good medicine and other good developments soon. 🤗
