I Have Something to Say

I see depression as 2 sided. #1 clinical depression and #2 social and self induced.

I believe that we have more #2 in society now then ever, but is looked at as #1.

How dare I say that, you may ask, you don't understand. Well I do, I have children that have depression. But what I see more often then not is the depression is brought on by them "thinking" they are not good enough, or smart enough, or xyz. So their depression is more self induced, because they are allowing other to define them, which they are believing.

You have to be your own best friend, you have to find your own self-worth. It is horrible watching my daughters self-esteem drop because some stupid boy calls them XYZ. I know it's the teenage years, but this rolls into young adult years, then throughout some people's adult life.

Listen, NOONE is perfect, NOONE does everything correct. But people DO attack others for making them FEEL bad and take it out on them. You have to find your rule set, and create your road to follow. Don't give people the power that they don't have or earned.

Do you feel like a failure as a parent because your kids are depressed?
Trio57 · 41-45, M
@juiceyangel333 Not but I wish, they would listen to me more then some pointless peer.

@Trio57 agree with this. Self worth shouldn't be based on others opinions. Most attacks are jealousy related but someone with low self esteem can't see this.

Depression is not self induced ever. That is a societal myth.

@JaggedLittlePill well I will agree that people believe their sadness is depression, but they will continue to call it depression. Society, with alot of other words, has mangled words and given them more power then then too. I doing it, it takes away from the people with REAL clinical depression, so maybe people stop saying they are depressed, when really they are sad, hurt, afraid, or lonely.

So what I am saying is people with actual clinical depression, need to fight and take back that being clinical depressed really means, it seems like it "cool" to be depressed or have anxiety, when it not and it being over diagnosed.

@JaggedLittlePill okay so what I hear you say, if you think I am a bad parent and don't support or think my child has true clinical depression. Nice of you to think that. Since I do believe she does and she fights it everyday. I also see her siblings and friends try and use the same terms, which is what I am trying to get at, but you have made your judgement of me already. Have a great day.

@JaggedLittlePill Here is to my point.
