I Have Something to Say

Bushranger · 70-79, M
Life is suffering. Suffering is caused by desire. The end of suffering comes from the end of desire. The Noble Eightfold Path leads us from suffering. The Noble Eightfold Path is: right understanding; right resolve; right speech; right action; right livelihood; right effort; right mindfulness; right meditation.

@Bushranger As noble and promising as the Noble Eightfold Path hopss to accomplish, I am afraid, sir, that it is impossible for man. Try as we may, right resolve/speech/action/livelihood/effort/mindfulness/meditation can never be perfect attained. Therefore, the Noble Eightfold Path's is but a never ending quest and a mere rat race.

Also, suffering is caused not by desire, but by the reality of evil in the hearts of men.
An starved man's desire for food is right - it is good that he desires food, for it would put an end to the suffering wrought by hunger.

@Lincoln98 True, enlightenment is very difficult to attain, that is why it's important to strive for it. But saying that it's impossible to achieve is like saying the ten commandments are impossible to follow.

Desire for food is acceptable when one has no food, but not when one has a surfeit. It's when our desires exceed our needs that problems begin.

But regardless of the philosophical discussion, I was presenting an alternative way out of pain and suffering. You and people you know may have gained great solace from prayer and your religious faith. I and others I know, have done the same from following a different path.
