I Have Something to Say

Have you ever encountered someone who seems to live for "the afterlife"?

Someone who says things like..."maybe we were meant to be together in paradise"....(Just writing this makes me cringe..just so ya'll know)

If so..what do you think about this?

Most people I spend any time with are aware of and endeavor for a positive afterlife.

I know many more that have trouble finding any meaning or purpose in this life and mock the concept of an afterlife.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Budwick I don't necessarily mock the concept. I am speaking more about those who use it in manipulative ways and there are many. Narcissistic and sociopathic people who subscribe to such things use it in a way to attempt to absolve themselves from doing something here and now.

"We can't be together now but we will in our afterlife" it's a string of attachment they tack onto the relationship in order to keep control and manipulate the situation to their advantage.

@JaggedLittlePill Manipulative narcissistic sociopath; sounds like you are dealing with people suffering personality disorders. The afterlife issue would be an interesting addition to the mix, but I doubt a cause or anything nefarious.

No, I'm not a psychologist.

@Budwick a cause of anything nefarious? Lol. Ok. 👍️
summersong · F
Tbh I find that really creepy.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@summersong me too
Gangstress · 41-45, F
Argh that seems to be me recently. All im talking about is death.how i will die. Will we die together. Will i go first. Will she be ok
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@JaggedLittlePill i fear there is something he is not telling you. From what i know, love is unconditional. It does not matter your situation,you go all out. When i professed my love to glitter i was besotted. Which meant i gave my life to her. Love also can become complicated dependent on circumstance. We were only 300 miles away. But i hated it. There wss a yearning of physical affection and things online aren't the same. Ldr are not for the faint

@Gangstress Oh yes there was a lot he was not telling me that ended long ago I was just stuck in my mind yesterday thinking about all my fucked up relationships!

I've known several of those types, yeah. My mother is one of those who seems more obsessed with the afterlife than the life she has.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@UndeadPrivateer Exactly.

It's like they won't live now but continue to talk about how they will live better in the afterlife.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@JaggedLittlePill Yeah, it's really weird to me. Especially when it manifests in incredibly self-destructive or just generally destructive ways. She's burned a lot of bridges with her shit behavior.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
My first thought is that there will be no marriages or love relationships in heaven.

My second thought is that this person might be stringing someone along.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@SweetMae yes indeed!

I think you know I believe in afterlife. 🙂
Hard to imagine how it would be though. 🤔
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Classified Yes..but this is not to mock that belief. I hope you know this.
Classified · M
@JaggedLittlePill I know. Otherwise I wouldn't have replied. 🙂
I would very careful about interacting with someone like that.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@PrivateHell it is definitely a red flag for me
DownTheStreet · 51-55, M
I’d pretty much drop kick someone who said that to me
Sourdad · 56-60, M
Walk away, and don't turn your back on them.
SunshineJ · 41-45, F
I found it creepy.
NudasPriest · 46-50, M
To live solely (or predominantly) for the afterlife is a waste and a tragic shame ... life is a gift, to be enjoyed ... but I do think it's wise to live in a way that doesn't ignore the possibility of an afterlife either ... personally, I believe there is one.
