Crackers are white therefore they’re compared to white people.

A gringa/gringo is geographical it doesn’t matter if that person is black, white, or of Hispanic decent or Asian decent- if they’re born in America they’re a gringa/o
They say gringa (greenga) as in lack of needing a GREEN card because they were born geographically in American. Other people from other countries need a green card to reside in America.

A gringa/o’s green card status is automatic they’re automatically residents and citizens of the us.
^that is today’s use of the word.

Previously and in other countries it is a descriptive of any non Spanish speaking person.

Further more gringa/o still applies to all peoples of every color and not just white people.

Beaner is used as an insult.

@KaysHealingPath I read this and then looked up gringo, I thought it meant white person but didn’t realize (according to the translation I found) it meant foreigner. So I learned something here too. I knew pinche gringo wasn’t good but I didn’t feel like gringo itself was an insult. Beaner is definitely insulting in my opinion.

@KaysHealingPath That isn't true. Neither is the idea it started in Mexico because American troops wore green uniforms. It is a Spanish term for anyone who doesn't speak Spanish and has no Spanish/Hispanic descent. That is where it comes from.
The term is WAY older than green cards.
Regardless, I never heard the term Being I used in a way that didn't have an bothering effect and in that regard is no different than calling a Mexican a beamer or a Puerto Rican a spic. Nor are all Central Americans brown.

@MethDozer I’ve heard it used that way, in a way that wasn’t offensive. I’ve heard white people use it about themselves and if the translation is as you say, that is not offensive, even if you take offense. Beaner is straight up offensive.

Beaner is used to insult Mexicans not all south and Central Americans. Neither is it used to insult Latin American islanders like Cubans or Puerto Rican’s.

You think you own facts because you want Tobias the word yet if Americans had a similar word for Spanish speakers it would be racist. Using the term gringo is the same thing as telling a Mexican Or Puerto Rican or Cuban to speak English when here. But that is admittedly rude and wrong. Being meaning a non Latino and non Spanish speaker is the exact same thing as that so why a double standard?

Gringo just means foreigners who don’t speak Spanish. That foreigner can be black, white, hispanic, or Asian, it doesn’t matter. And it doesn’t mean anyone is demanding they speak Spanish. As a matter of fact you won’t get hired in any tourist industry in Latin America country unless you can speak English as well.
Nowadays in Mexico gringo mostly means someone who is born in America. They call me gringa even though i speak Spanish 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not insulted. If you feel insulted because you were born an American by default there’s nothing i can do to help you.

You are hilarious though. You can get your panties in a bunch over gringo but get saved your anger for when people call white people real slurs.

Sorry but I don't hear very many slurs for shit people but heard gringo all the time. " hey gringo......" " ask the gringo" ... Sorry I have the wrong opinion for you, but as I said. I see no difference than if a I said "Hey border crossed" " hey beaner" or " go ask the Mexican".

Slurs don't have to be about a specific race. And if it being used primarily for Americans is a slur of nationality. Try thinking about it a little.

I get it, it is different because it used by Latinos on Americans and foreigners and not a term used by Americans for foreigners so it is different. If it was a term used by Americans for foreigners it would be insensitive and wrong.

I don't think either of those words are endearing.

Hispanics have a way of insulting foreigners with the term "gringo" perhaps it is due to their arrogance or love for their country, but I've heard it.

In the same way "woman" is just a gender specific word, some people can turn that into an insult, even.
