Pardon my religious ignorance but what is the point of not eating meat on Good Friday if you love eating seafood anyway?

Certain Catholic observance days during Lent or Ash Wednesday for example, were regarded as days of penance.
Where a true observer would deny the meat that makes them strong and effectively 'fast' thus showing their strength of will.
