I Have Something to Say

Wilfred Owen

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.
This made me think of the shooting in Florida. The kids are really giving Trump hell over it, maybe they can do what the adults have failed to do. 馃槥

[@364304,Peaches] I hope I'm wrong, but those students' involvement after a few months will probably go the way of Occupy Wall Street and fidget-spinners.
[@268346,MissPriscillaPrim] Maybe some, but I think a few are gonna be powerful speakers!馃帳馃拑馃徎 Like the one young lady that asked Trump is he gonna keep accepting money from the NRA?!

Benjamin Britten used this in his War Requiem, I believe. Thanks for posting this.

[@327653,FlyingHome] Yes, I grokked its timeliness.
