Well, the mother is a lost cause. She's living 2500 miles away. And has finally admitted that she will never move east again. She gave up all parental rights to the child, now she has only whatever he allows her. She has three more kids and has no want or need of this one.
He isn't a good father, but he is what she has. If for any reason she is removed from his care, she is doomed. Well, I think she already has more emotional, issues than kids twice her age. What will happen when she enters puberty is scary to think about.

Well, he has an 8 year old who has abandonment issues because her mother kept leaving the province and coming back "to stay for good" then she'd leave again. And again and again. Her dads idea of a joke when she gets a bit unruly or stubborn is to tell his friends they can have her," just make me an offer". She cries and he says to learn to take a joke. Sometimes I want to smack him. I tell him he's hurting her, and he says he's toughening her up.

Yup. I love my kids, all of them, but I'm afraid I don't like some of them as much as others. That grandson is difficult to like. He's very selfish. I was really pleased when he fought her for custody, as he was and is a hard working man who is settled, and she is a flighty girl who has abandoned her daughter 6 times in the first 7 years of her life, but for a near genius, (iq near 150) he isn't very smart when it comes to human interaction.

I have a grandson who loves sarcasm, to the point where most of his family doesn't want to be with him, and when he brings his sisters or his daughter to tears, he tells them to grow up and learn to take a joke.

True. Much better than sarcasm. I enjoy puns, good and bad. Sarcasm is just meanness disguised a kidding around.

Batovn, I guess we are on opposite sides of the issue with regards to sarcasm.
