We tend to hold policemen to a higher standard and we want to bitch about them when they pull us over and make a mistake. We don't think about where they might have gone before we interact with them. After dealing with drug addicts and domestic violence all day it is hard to smile and be cordial when making the next stop, especially if there was an abused or dead child at the previous stop. They see much that they can't un-see. Many policemen are veterans who have seen tragedies of war before they became policemen and witnessed the tragedies of human existence.
