Pronunciations: Route is "Root" and in US "Rout." Anti is "An tea" and in US "An tie."

i've always wondered why the us would change the spelling of those words and more. none of the other english speaking countries did.

@beermeplease I would hazard a guess here. Perhaps it's because the US left the Commonwealth (actually, we left the Empire) so early in history. We never had the British education system here (A - levels, whatever those are! lol), and we never had a British presence here after the Revolutionary War.
